Ready to design instruction that supports students as readers and writers? Instruction that teaches the language commonly used to read and write at school is necessary. In this series, we discuss the importance of teaching multilingual learners and multidialectal students in culturally responsive classrooms, with a focus on the skills and competencies needed to access school literacy. We also discussed the challenges that students might face while reading and comprehending academic texts, emphasizing the need to teach the Language of School Literacy (LSL). Lastly, we highlighted the significance of the three purposes for teaching LSL that allow teaching in just and humanizing ways in school settings.
